Chris Schaper
Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer & Interim Global Chief Underwriting Officer
Christopher Schaper is Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer & Interim Global Chief Underwriting Officer of AIG. Mr. Schaper brings more than three decades of insurance and reinsurance leadership experience to his oversight of AIG’s global Enterprise Risk Management organization, including the company’s risk management strategy, policies and practices. In this role, Mr. Schaper will focus on the enhancement of AIG’s enterprise risk framework to address the evolving global risk landscape.
Mr. Schaper also advances AIG’s culture of underwriting excellence as Interim Global Chief Underwriting Officer. Since his appointment to the role of Global Chief Underwriting Officer in 2023, Mr. Schaper has led the development, implementation and ongoing enhancement of AIG’s global underwriting strategy and core capabilities, as well as next generation risk analytics.
He was previously CEO of AIG Re as well as CEO of both Validus Re and AlphaCat.
Mr. Schaper joined AIG in 2019 from Marsh McLennan, where he was CEO of Victor Insurance Holdings, Marsh’s global underwriting MGA. Prior to that, Mr. Schaper served as President of Montpelier Re Ltd. and Underwriting Chairman of Blue Capital, Montpelier’s capital markets entity. Previously, he held leadership roles at Endurance Specialty Insurance Ltd., including Chief Underwriting Officer and Head of Reinsurance. Earlier, he had underwriting responsibilities at ERC, a division of GE Capital and at Cigna Insurance.
Mr. Schaper holds Master of Science in International Business and Master of Business Administration degrees from Johns Hopkins University as well as a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Central Connecticut State University. He is also a member of the board on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business.
