AIG Leaders Discuss GenAI and the Atlanta Innovation Hub
AIG leaders gathered near the new innovation hub in Atlanta, Georgia, to underscore its important role in advancing our data and digital strategy
Claude Wade, AIG’s Executive Vice President, Chief Digital Officer and Global Head of Business Operations & Claims, recently kicked off two events to emphasize the importance of the Atlanta innovation hub and discuss the role of GenAI. The first event, called “Reimagine Your Career Potential with GenAI,” brought together an audience of local technology professionals with a panel of AIG colleagues speaking about GenAI’s future possibilities and exciting new career opportunities. During the second event, attendees heard how the hub will help power AIG’s innovation journey.
Claude explained that the hub will be the only AIG location where all aspects of the insurance process – from distribution and underwriting to claims payment and servicing – are physically located in one place, empowering colleagues to quickly identify challenges and work together to devise solutions. Additionally, colleagues at the hub will develop new GenAI use cases that can be leveraged across the organization.
“Our goal is for the hub to set the culture standard for the organization in terms of what it means to collaborate and work across the end-to-end process to drive outcomes for our clients,” Claude said. “Collaboration is how we can move AIG further faster.”
Driving growth
Claude discussed our efforts to scale GenAI-powered products across AIG and how these capabilities free up capacity for our colleagues, including AIG Underwriter Assistance. The program applies a Large Language Model (LLM) to hundreds of documents that arrive in various forms as unstructured data, reducing inefficiencies and errors while enabling underwriters to focus on more value-added tasks.
Typically, underwriters handle large amounts of unstructured data, which can take up time and resources. The program uses LLMs to pull out key fields to prepare the file for underwriters to analyze, enabling the processing of more submissions.
Executive Leaders for GenAI at AIG, Jim Young, Global Chief Data Officer, and Gillian Gunnink, Global Head of Innovation & Digital Business Enablement, kicked off the first event.
“We’re focusing our AI efforts in AIG’s core capabilities of underwriting and claims adjudication,” Jim said. “We’re hiring for roles that we never heard of three years ago. There’s a lot of opportunity for career growth at AIG and this GenAI capability is the spark for that.”
Gillian emphasized AIG’s “Learn-It-All" culture.
“This is a culture of being a constant learner,” Gillian said. “We’re going to continue to stretch our capabilities.” The hub, set to open in 2026, will be able to accommodate more than 1,000 colleagues, including through the creation of more than 600 new roles in underwriting, claims, operations, data engineering and AI over the next five years.
The opening of the hub supports AIG’s plans to responsibly scale the use of GenAI to drive significant benefits across our business, starting with underwriting, which will enable us to deliver value, service and insights to clients and distribution partners, while improving the colleague experience.
