Inspiring the Next Generation of Talent

AIG welcomed a group of Howard University business students to the New York headquarters to learn more about the company’s Purpose and Values, inclusive workplace and opportunities for growth.

AIG recently welcomed a group of 45 business students from Howard University to the New York headquarters to learn more about the company’s Purpose and Values, inclusive workplace and opportunities for growth.

Howard University’s 47th annual Financial Services, Insurance and Risk Management (FIRM) Symposium consisted of both academic and skills-development sessions that allowed students to gain insights into the insurance industry.

Based in Washington, D.C., Howard University is one of a group of U.S.-based universities categorized as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), whose primary mission is to serve the Black community. The participating students are members of Howard’s Center for Insurance Education (CIE), created in 1978 to prepare top business students for rewarding careers in insurance.

Fostering a learn-it-all culture

Through various educational and networking sessions, one message remained constant during the day-long event: developing top talent and fostering a “Learn-It-All” culture is at the heart of AIG. The students learned how AIG’s Atlanta innovation hub allows teams to collaborate seamlessly across departments and promote growth. They also heard about AIG’s recruitment process, openings and job simulations to help students understand the various roles at an insurance company.

With this year’s symposium theme of Data Privacy, AIG colleagues hosted a panel discussion about data privacy risk.

They also shared how AIG complies with global regulatory challenges and demonstrated their robust claims expertise using a dating application case study. These conversations reinforced AIG’s commitment to being at the forefront of originating risk solutions and focusing on developing colleagues at all points in their careers.

Commitment to continuous improvement

A panel of AIG Early Career colleagues emphasized AIG’s inclusive workplace culture and respect for broad thinking. They also reflected on navigating their first roles in insurance and the transition from college to the corporate environment.

The day’s sessions reinforced the company’s commitment to continuous improvement, performance-driven culture, and equipping colleagues with forward-looking skills necessary for the AIG of the future.
