AIG Deepens Long-Term Commitment to Salford City
We are excited to support the creation of professional opportunities for the Lionesses women’s football team.
AIG is proud to deepen our long-term commitment to Salford City Football Club (SCFC) by supporting the Lionesses women’s team, reflecting our dedication to create opportunities for women athletes across local communities.
AIG has reached an agreement in principle to become the largest minority equity investor in the Lionesses and a long-term commercial partner, making AIG the first Fortune 500 company to take an ownership stake in a UK women’s football club. SCFC also welcomes England legend Jill Scott as its new Chief Women's Football Advisor.
Jill Scott participates in a panel on the advancement of women’s sports during the 2026 AIG Women’s Open.
“Our interest in supporting the Lionesses reflects AIG’s long-term commitment to advancing opportunities for women in business, sport and society, building on our investment in the AIG Women’s Open, which has elevated women’s professional golf,” AIG President & Chief Executive Officer Eric Andersen says.
AIG's branding visibility will be expanded across the Club. This includes renaming the home field near Manchester to “AIG Stadium," adding the AIG logo to the front of the Club's official and training jerseys and designating AIG as its official Financial Services partner. It also marks the first time the Lionesses, the Ammies men's team and the Academy will share the same front-of-shirt partner.
AIG began its partnership with SCFC in 2025, when the company became a strategic investor and global commercial partner.
