Meeting the Moment

AIG is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2025 AIG Women’s Open

Soon, the world’s best professional women golfers will prepare to meet the moment at the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, to be held in Wales for the first time in its 49-year history at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club from July 31 to August 3.

AIG is the proud title sponsor of the celebrated tournament, the capstone to the five annual major championships in women’s golf. The excitement is already building in anticipation of this year’s Championship, where the athletes will showcase the precision, determination and greatness that have propelled them to the top of the game.

Since becoming title sponsor in 2019, AIG has partnered with The R&A to elevate the quality of the Championship by tripling the prize money, securing iconic golf courses and investing in enhancing the player experience. The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) recognized these efforts last year by awarding the AIG Women’s Open with the prestigious LPGA Gold Driver Award for Best Player Experience

Preparation Meets Opportunity

Preparations for the Championship began years in advance at Royal Porthcawl, a 134-year-old course nestled along a stunning coastline and the site of the biggest women’s sporting event ever to be staged in Wales. Considerations include new teeing areas, bunkers, green complexes and, in some cases, a full change of layout and design. One year before the Championship, teams selected potential teeing areas and decided on fairway widths, rough height and definition.

Throughout this process, The R&A’s Agronomy and Rules of Golf teams are in regular contact with the host club to assist with presenting the course in the best possible condition and health, and ensuring the greens are at a suitable speed and firmness for the Championship.

Alongside the course setup, temporary structures are placed on the golf course, including television towers, advertising boards, hospitality and catering facilities, signage and grandstands.

Driving the Game Forward

Throughout July, more than 100 women will vie to qualify to play in the Championship, with the final qualifying round set to take place at Pyle & Kenfig in Bridgend, Wales on July 28. During the tournament, each golfer will play 18 holes on four consecutive days. The player completing the 72 holes in the fewest shots will be declared the winner.

Last year, Lydia Ko won the AIG Women’s Open at the fabled Old Course in St Andrews, widely known as the home of golf in Scotland. Next year’s Championship will be held at the Royal Lytham & St Annes golf course in Lancashire, England.

This year, we look forward to celebrating AIG Global Ambassador Georgia Hall and all the players whose excellence continues to move the game forward.
