Helping Clients Prepare for Cloud Disruption
AIG releases a new solution to speed claims payments when digital disruptions strike.
As companies grow their investment in cloud services to keep pace with the online economy, they also need to ensure their investment in the cloud is resilient to outages. AIG is committed to supporting them on this journey, adding new solutions to our suite of offerings to accommodate the increasing reliance on cloud computing.
AIG recently announced our Parametric Cloud Outage Solution, a new expansion of cyber insurance coverage options in the U.S., providing our clients with faster access to claims funds and helping them to manage financial losses resulting from certain cloud service outages.
The cloud has become the backbone of global commerce, with businesses spending US$129 billion on cloud infrastructure services in the first quarter of 2026 alone, according to Synergy Research Group data. With so much important data being stored in the cloud, outages have become one of the greatest hazards companies face.
As organizations demand increased computing capacity to accommodate expanding AI workloads, the increasingly complex infrastructure leaves them more exposed to outages than ever before.
"AIG’s Parametric Cloud Outage Solution is designed to give organizations faster access to funds when disruptions occur, helping them respond with greater confidence and certainty while complementing their broader risk management and insurance programs," says Tracie Grella, AIG’s Global Chief Underwriting Officer of Cyber Risk Insurance.
Parametric insurance explained
Parametric insurance has traditionally been used to cover weather-related and natural catastrophe risks, such as heavy rainfall, high winds, and hurricanes. Unlike traditional insurance, it provides a predetermined payment when a specific event or policy trigger occurs, allowing insurers to assist clients more quickly.
Now, AIG is applying this same concept to digital disruptions. Developed with Parametrix, a leading provider of digital infrastructure insurance solutions, AIG can determine when cyber insurance policyholders face eligible disruptions to cloud infrastructure, software-as-a-service platforms or other cloud-based technology services through Parametrix’s proprietary monitoring.
“The Parametric Cloud Outage Solution was tailored to make the adoption of those technologies safer,” says Sharon Haran, Chief Commercial Officer at Parametrix. “Parametric insurance brings clarity to the insured, who know exactly what compensation they will get in a given event and receive payment in as little as two hours, shorter than the typical waiting period.”
