An AIG Leader’s Commitment to Community Recovery
Glatfelter President and CEO Erin Fry is leveraging product innovations, distribution partnerships and a culture of caring to help clients quickly recover in moments that matter.
For Erin Fry, a belief that insurance brings value to society is fundamental to how she approaches her role as President and CEO of AIG’s Glatfelter Insurance Group and Head of AIG North America Alternative Channels, a leading underwriter of program business in the U.S.
At its core, the mission of Glatfelter and its 500 associates is to show up in times of need for clients across North America -- the emergency responders, educators, municipal leaders and healthcare workers who make up the backbone of communities.
“Our clients are the first line of defense for their communities,” Erin says. “When things go bad, we're there to help them get back into the communities they serve as quickly and effectively as possible.”
That means bringing speedy claims service to the company’s more than 30,000 community-focused clients through a combination of innovative and tailored products, an extensive network of distribution partners and a commitment to care for those who care for others.
A Market-Leading Distribution Network
Rooted in its rich history, the company serves a variety of insurance needs, including property, casualty, and management liability. This year, the company will celebrate its 75th anniversary, a true testament to the way Glatfelter associates have effectively stepped up to care for community caretakers.
“Glatfelter has a local culture and is part of a global organization, so we’re able to maintain a service-oriented mindset locally but have the ability and balance sheet of AIG behind us,” Erin says.
Glatfelter has strong, broad relationships with brokers in communities throughout the U.S., built over decades. Acquired by AIG in 2018, Glatfelter operates today as a Managing General Agent (MGA), an insurance intermediary with underwriting authority from an insurer. The company has leveraged AIG’s vast broker network to extend those partnerships and expand strategically to drive growth.
“We’ve been able to collaboratively work with the AIG distribution team to grow those strategic relationships, both locally and broadly within AIG,” Erin says.
Best-in-Class, Innovative Claims Service
When Hurricane Helene roared through North Carolina in the U.S. in 2024, Glatfelter associates took action. They immediately arrived on the scene, borrowed fire trucks and coordinated with other states, enabling local emergency responders to get back on the road to save lives.
“We look for ways that we can accelerate our claims service and provide best-in-class support to our clients,” Erin says.
Glatfelter’s flagship product is called VFIS, a specialty program the company pioneered in 1968 to support the unique needs of volunteer firefighters. Today, the program has grown to become the nation’s leading insurance provider for emergency services organizations, who serve as the inspiration for the organization’s portfolio of industry-leading products.
“We continue to iterate that program,” Erin says. “We continue to be a thought leader in the emergency services space.”
VFIS’ first product, Accident & Sickness (A&S), allows Glatfelter to issue a payment in 24 hours to the families of volunteer firefighters lost in the line of duty so they can continue to pay bills and funeral expenses.
The company recently expanded the coverage to include additional protections for injuries to working dogs, who offer critical support to emergency responders.
Early Lessons in Securing People’s Lives
Erin began her career as an attorney servicing claims, a role that taught her the impact insurance can have in providing security to people’s lives. Growing up in York, Pennsylvania, in the same community where Glatfelter is based, Erin credits her parents, who worked at a local church and school district, for shaping her work ethic.
That influence is reflected in Erin’s approach to Glatfelter’s clients: “Glatfelter has an unwavering commitment to our clients, insureds and communities. We take that very seriously and want to be there for them in the many future moments that matter.”
