With a strong commitment to underwriting excellence and portfolio optimization, AIG helps clients secure what matters most, protect against uncertainty, and provide confidence for tomorrow’s opportunities. A recent testament to this is the successful collaboration between AIG’s UK and Norway Multinational and Energy teams that resulted in Borregaard, one of the world’s most advanced and sustainable biorefineries, expanding its existing cover with AIG.
This new business relationship expands AIG’s multinational portfolio, uniting expertise across multiple lines of business. Setting the standard, it highlights the outstanding collaboration and showcases the incredible work of our product teams in Energy, Financial Lines, Marine and Multinational.
“Our underwriting expertise, multinational capabilities and drive to understand and support our client's needs delivers long-term value, making this a business win for all stakeholders,” said James Langdon, AIG’s Head of UK Energy.
Borregaard has plants and sales offices in 13 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas and is one of the world's most advanced and sustainable biorefineries. By using natural, renewable raw materials, they produce advanced and environmentally friendly biochemicals that can replace oil-based products.
AIG’s close relationship with Willis and Willis’ knowledge of AIG’s global capabilities enabled the broker to approach the client first when it saw a need for excess coverage to help the client’s business. Collaborating with their London and Oslo teams, AIG’s underwriting team swiftly developed a tailored solution to suit the client’s needs, which helped AIG win the lead and fronting position for the excess layer. After three client visits, AIG was also awarded the lead and fronting position on the primary layer, further expanding AIG’s opportunities to manage more of the risk.
Delivering Unique Value
John Whitbourn, AIG’s UK Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Manager, visited the client in Norway to learn more about its business functions and coverage requirements. This personal touch enabled AIG to provide Borregaard with a tailored solution and build the trust needed to help them succeed. Demonstrating the pursuit of growth, AIG leveraged its capabilities, resources and expertise to deliver unique value for the client.
"It has been a pleasure to work with the AIG team on developing a solution that meets Borregaard’s needs,” said Lars Foyn, Head of Sales and Client Management Norway, Willis. “AIG has set a high standard with this deal. Their ability to write multinational policies at higher limits and sizeable market share has facilitated a durable relationship.”
Our Multinational portfolio is designed to bring together the best of AIG and promote collaboration across geographies to help ensure the clients’ ease of doing business and supporting their global risk management strategies by providing local coverage in over 200 countries and jurisdictions through our global network.
Expanding the relationship with Borregaard enables AIG’s continued progress in growing the multinational book and cementing our relationship with brokers across the UK and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The disciplined approach and ability to build on this progress continues to help set the standard for the industry.
