Today’s constantly changing regulatory environment is providing employees with additional legal protections. AIG can help clients manage and mitigate these risks through innovative insurance coverage and loss prevention services designed to shield employers from the financial impact of such risks.

AIG’s Employment Practices Liability (EPL) coverage addresses discrimination, wrongful termination, retaliation, and other risks faced by employers. In addition, policyholders gain access to risk management services, including consultation from employment law firms, online employment reference manuals, and other offerings to help minimize liability risk.

In the event a policyholder experiences a loss, our claims team helps to minimize the impact with swift action, allowing the insured to focus on running the business rather than being distracted by a crisis.

California Sexual Harassment and Wrongful Termination:

A female manager at a health club filed a sexual harassment and wrongful termination suit against her employer. She alleged that she was demoted and then fired after she complained to management about the harassing behavior of male managers. The jury awarded the plaintiff $2.4 million.

Colorado Disability Discrimination:

A former employee sued his employer, a packaging company, for disability discrimination, alleging that the company refused to allow him to return to work after he was on disability leave recovering from a brain aneurysm. The jury awarded the plaintiff $8 million; $7.5 million for punitive damages.

Florida Sexual Harassment and Discrimination:

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued a small manufacturer on behalf of three female and four male employees of Cuban descent, alleging that the women were sexually harassed by their supervisors and that the men were discriminated against when they supported the women’s allegations. The matter settled for $1 million.

AIG was ranked the #1 EPL insurance provider in the U.S. by the 2015 RIMS Benchmark Study.
