AIG volunteers pick up unused cafeteria food for delivery to those in need

Each year, America throws away enough food to feed 2 billion people. AIG and Restaurant Associates are teaming up with Rescuing Leftover Cuisine to bring excess food to the people who need it most. At the end of each business day, volunteers from Rescuing Leftover Cuisine pick up unused cafeteria food that otherwise would be disposed of, and deliver it to local shelters in the New York City area. Since Rescuing Leftover Cuisine was established in 2013, it has delivered over 10,000 pounds of food from its partners to homeless shelters and rescue missions.

Said Tom Calvo, Director of Food Services, “This is a great opportunity for AIG and Restaurant Associates to increase our food sustainability efforts by partnering with a local nonprofit organization to serve individuals in need.”

This partnership is a pilot for all parties involved, with plans to possibly expand to other AIG locations.
