Wildfire Protection Unit
Wildfire Protection Unit
Wildfires are inevitable. Wildfire damage is not.

AIG Private Client Group’s Wildfire Protection Unit® is the first-ever personal wildfire protection program. Unlike the actions of a fire department, we aim to pre-empt damage before wildfires have even developed.

Please note: the Wildfire Protection Unit is a complimentary service for AIG Private Client Group policyholders in select areas within the western U.S.

How It Works Back To Top

In partnership with Firebreak Rapid Response LLC  - one of the country’s leading wildfire mitigation services - the Wildfire Protection Unit brings the latest fire mitigation technology to your home. Its services include:

At-home consultation.
Our wildfire mitigation specialists will visit your property (by appointment only), identify any areas of wildfire exposure and advise you on the best course of action to safeguard your home.

Early application of fire retardant.
The Wildfire Protection Unit uses Phos-Chek®, the same fire retardant as the United States Forest Service. It is environmentally friendly, dries clearly and washes off with a hose or heavy rain.

If needed, we will spray dry brush around the perimeter of your property with Phos-Chek, providing targeted protection for the duration of wildfire season.

Emergency response during an active fire.
If a wildfire comes within three miles of your property, we will automatically dispatch the Wildfire Protection Unit trucks. Access permitting, our specialists will spray fire retardant on all brush, outbuildings and other combustible parts of the home, including landscaping.

If you’re not an AIG Private Client Group policyholder but want to consider placing your insurance with us, ask your independent agent or broker, or find a representative HERE

Once you're enrolled:

  • The GPS coordinates of your home will be entered into our state-of-the-art wildfire tracking system.
  • We will continuously monitor wildfire activity throughout the season. If fire comes within three miles of your home, one of our response trucks is automatically dispatched.
  • You do not need to call — or be on the property — for us to take action. However, we will provide an emergency contact number should you need it.
  • Upon arrival at your home, fire retardant will be applied to brush, outbuildings and any other combustible areas on the property, including landscaping.
Wildfire Facts Back To Top

The western U.S. has been experiencing record wildfire losses. In the last few years alone, hundreds of thousands of acres of land — as well as thousands of homes — literally went up in smoke.

Unfortunately, this trend is not expected to change. As developers build deeper into brush and forest areas, heavy winter rainfall continues to yield robust brush growth — providing plenty of fuel for ravenous wildfires.

Reducing your home’s vulnerability.
All homeowners can take steps to reduce the risk of wildfire damage.

Static methods typically incorporate design and materials proven to reduce the likelihood of wildfire taking hold. They include:

  • Non-combustible construction materials
  • Regular brush-clearing procedures
  • Non-combustible plantings in landscaping

Dynamic methods are used to actively fight or suppress an active wildfire. They include:

  • Permanently installed exterior wildfire suppression systems
  • Response of local fire departments

Why is AIG Private Client Group providing this service?
As industry leaders in loss prevention, we feel it is crucial to develop proactive wildfire mitigation tactics to keep your home and loved ones out of harm's way.

What will this service cost me?
The Wildfire Protection Unit is complimentary for AIG Private Client Group policyholders who reside in the eligible response zones.

Why do I need this in addition to the efforts of my local fire department?
During severe wildfires, firefighters may not have the resources to defend every property. Homeowners who take proactive mitigation steps have a far greater chance of saving their homes. I live in a residential neighborhood with fully landscaped yards.

Why do I need the Wildfire Protection Unit?
In the event of a catastrophic wildfire, flying embers can travel a considerable distance and spread fire to neighborhoods with minimal brush exposure. Your home is vulnerable to flying embers if it has a wood shake roof, wood shingle siding, wood decking or any other combustible components. We will identify any potential hazards during your consultation and recommend pre-treatment and/or enrollment in emergency response if needed.

Who will administer the program?
Firebreak Rapid Response LLC, a subsidiary of Firebreak Spray Systems LLC, is an Industry leader in wildfire mitigation systems and a distributor of Phos Chek® fire retardant. Firebreak has an exclusive partnership with AIG Private Client Group.

What is Phos-Chek?
Phos-Chek is a specially formulated fire retardant used for decades by the U.S. Forest Service (along roads, railroads, utility lines and in campgrounds). It is colorless; safe around plants, animals and people; and it will not stain or damage your home.

Will this service satisfy any state or local brush clearance requirements?
No. This program is only one part of a responsible brush fire mitigation strategy. Brush should continue to be managed seasonally and thinned as required by the state or local jurisdiction in your area.

Is the Wildfire Protection Unit available through any other insurance company?
No. This program is unique to AIG Private Client Group for the exclusive protection of our policyholders.

Is the Wildfire Protection Unit available outside of the designated response zones?
No, the service is limited to the eligible response zones.

How do I arrange for a consultation?
If you are an eligible AIG Private Client Group policyholder, simply call (800) 899-2409 to schedule a complimentary on-site consultation.

If I sign up for emergency response, do I need to contact someone if a wildfire is approaching my property?
No. The emergency response team monitors wildfire activity in each zone. If fire comes within three miles of your home, the team may access the property at anytime to apply fire retardant to the home, outbuildings and landscaping.

Can I sign up for emergency response but not for pre-treatment?
We strongly encourage the two services be bundled together. The pre-treatment process familiarizes the response team with the property in advance of an emergency situation.
