Bayanihan, which means ‘working together toward a common goal,’ is said to be the national spirit of the Philippines. That same spirit of friendship and cooperation was evident as AIG Philippines celebrated 85 years of serving the community.
Mark Lwin, AIG Philippines General Manager, comments “AIG has supported our clients through wars, earthquakes, typhoons, and periods of financial uncertainty. We have been a proud partner in the Philippines story.”
He expressed further, “AIG’s mission has been to provide confidence to individuals and communities to face the fear of the future, and to provide the foundation for economic growth and prosperity in a world of changing and ever more complex risk.”
“While AIG’s mission hasn’t changed, AIG Philippines as an organization is different today than we were in the beginning. Indeed, we have evolved each decade as needs of [the] industry [has] changed, and as we have challenged ourselves to be an innovator and to take risks, even as we protect others from risk. More than a celebration of the past history, this anniversary was thus a call to look to the future and to envision AIG, as well as our clients and our community, in the next 85 years to come. Part of this future for AIG is a renewed focus on our roots of 1932 – a relentless and disciplined focus on commercial insurance, and where AIG’s expertise, capacity, and innovative products are unique. AIG today is a leading commercial insurer in the Philippines, with dedicated industry practices covering infrastructure, energy, business processing, hospitality and tourism, and financial institutions, and with a tailored suite of products to meet the specific needs of these industries.”
Ambassador Jose Cuisia added, "AIG has never wavered from its commitment to stand behind its customers at their time of need. Today, AIG Philippines has proven itself not only a resilient corporate entity, but an innovative one, continuously providing services and products that are attuned to the evolving needs of a thriving economy.”
The local AIG team's corporate citizenship activities work to reflect this theme of resiliency. Sowing the seeds of the future in the community, AIG Philippines colleagues planted 850 trees in Nuvali, Laguna, and donated to the Philippine Red Cross. These efforts complement the ongoing commitment to rebuild communities devastated by the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
AIG Commercial CEO Rob Schimek commended the team, "AIG Philippines continues to empower Filipino businesses through our claims and risk expertise, technical and engineering capabilities. To the Philippines AIG team − we are incredibly proud of the work you do. And to our clients and business partners, we look forward to serving you for another 85 years."
