This year, AIG volunteers supported Enactus UK at its 2017 National Expo Competition in London which celebrated and rewarded social enterprise undertaken by nearly 3,000 students from 56 UK universities. Enactus is an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action.

As Gold sponsors of Enactus UK’s National Expo and a corporate partner of the organization for several years, AIG had a strong presence at the event. While some of our employees participated as judges, others enthusiastically helped out at the AIG stand at the Enactus Employability Fair, where students lined up to experience AIG’s Haka 360 virtual reality app.

Enactus students use the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives around the world. Through some truly life-changing projects in the UK and overseas, winners of the national finals will go on to participate in the Enactus World Championship with their counterparts from around the world.

The UK winners, from Southampton University, presented ‘Sole Support’, which is a Kenyan social enterprise that sells affordable closed toe shoes to prevent infection from the jigger parasite. Students from University of Edinburgh also won for ‘Slurp,’ which combats homelessness in Edinburgh by funding qualifications and training for young people through their soup stalls.

This year’s World Championship is being held in London this September, where Southampton University will share the spotlight with some truly remarkable teams from around the world.

Nusula Lunkuse, AIG Recoveries Technician, who volunteered at the Expo, said, “It was a fantastic event! It was very rewarding to judge the competition, be on the stand at the job fair, and hear new ideas from young people.”

Harry Vasilaras, Underwriting Professional Associate, AIG Europe Limited, who acted as AIG’s Enactus Lead in the UK, commented, “The event’s success has led to an uptake in the number of colleagues looking to volunteer as business advisors or personal mentors for Enactus. A great result!”
