Only three months after winning Post’s Claims Collaboration award, Adrian McAndrew, Property and Energy Major Loss Adjuster at AIG, was named Young Claims Professional of the Year at the 2017 Insurance Insider Honours Awards, held in London.

At 29, Adrian McAndrew is quickly making his mark in the insurance industry due to his skillful handling of claims and client relations.

Adrian helps AIG manage large, complex property and energy claims around the world, with a focus on major upstream energy claims. His proactive approach in assisting clients after losses often leads to rapid resolution and payment of claims. Adrian also holds a CII diploma, regarded across the insurance industry as a strong indicator of professional knowledge and achievement.

As a member of Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) New Generation Programme, Adrian worked on a team of ten promising insurance professionals to develop a project that can improve current insurance practices. In light of riots in the UK in 2011, Adrian’s group identified the need for a guide to assist local police after large-scale riot events. Supported by the UK Home Office, the team is working on ‘Riot Claims Handling Best Practice Guide’ to provide a gold standard for UK law enforcement agencies managing future claims.

Adrian has helped to enhance AIG’s claims capabilities in Europe by traveling to Norway with underwriters to present workshops and promote best practices in handling claims. In February, Adrian spoke at the prestigious Lillehammer Energy Claims Conference, where he addressed leading insurers, clients, and energy experts from across the globe.

Commenting on his recognition as Young Claims Professional of the Year, Adrian said, “I was pleased to have been nominated for the award, and it is a real honor to have won. I appreciate the support of those around me.”

John Kelly, Head of Major Loss Claims, Property and Energy, said, “Adrian is very diligent and dedicated to his role, yet is modest about his achievements. He came to AIG as someone who wanted to progress and handle large claims, and he has done exactly that. Adrian has moved quickly from someone with lots of potential to become a market leader.”
