“Nominated by the industry, voted by the people.” That was how AIG won Best Rugby Union Sponsorship of the Decade at the 2016 UK Sponsorship Awards, held at The London Marriot Grosvenor Square. “Thank you to everyone who showed their support and voted for AIG,” said Danny Glantz, Global Head of Sponsorship.
Since AIG launched its sponsorship with New Zealand Rugby in 2012, it has helped raise the profile of the teams it sponsors – including the Rugby World Champion All Blacks – and the game of rugby around the world. Aligned with its role as an insurer, AIG has maintained a particular focus on the importance of preparation and safe participation in the sport.
AIG was also named Best Business to Business Sponsorship against tough competition from Vodafone, DHL, and Accenture. And Octagon – the consultant team that helped AIG plan and execute memorable client experiences during the 2015 Rugby World Cup – was recognized as Consultancy of the Year.
In addition, AIG won Best Strategy: Global & Multi-Country for Insurance at the 13th Annual Gramercy Institute Strategy Awards, held at Thomson Reuters in New York City in March, and was one of two brands named Best of Show (runner up). The winners were chosen by judges specializing in financial marketing.
Said Danny, “These awards are testament to a strong and successful partnership. In addition to tangible on field results, the All Blacks brand is truly unique in sport, and New Zealand Rugby is unsurpassed in professionalism.”
AIG President and CEO Peter Hancock congratulated the Sponsorship team: “Well done to all! This is an outstanding recognition of all your hard work and collaboration.”
