AIG Japan earned a Gold rating from Work with Pride (wwP), the first organization in Japan to rate companies on LGBT inclusion. We are honored to receive this recognition in the 2016 PRIDE Index, Japan’s first-ever index of corporations’ support for LGBT employees.  The award reflects the way we continue to disrupt the Japanese insurance market by embracing innovation and diversity throughout our company.

The PRIDE Index rates companies on their performance in the categories of Policy, Representation, Inspiration, Development, and Engagement/Empowerment. The Gold rating reflects AIG Japan’s proactive fulfillment of these five goals for LGBT employees.

AIG Japan supports diversity through partnerships with our employees and our community. Formed in January 2014, our Diversity Council furthers LGBT inclusion. Our five employee-centric support networks, or Employee Resource Groups, include LGBT & Allies, Women & Allies, and Working Families. By offering education and training to our people, as well as our insurance agency partners, we help build awareness and support for the LGBT community. We are also an official sponsor of Tokyo and Kyushu’s Rainbow Pride events, as well as the Kansai Rainbow Festa.

Japan’s LGBT & Allies group, which includes over 100 employees, has supported the organization’s internal and external communications and organized community events to promote LGBT equality. Led by the LGBT & Allies group, AIG Japan employees and their families regularly participate in Pride events around the country to promote understanding and acceptance within the wider community.

“Being recognized for this award is a great testament to the efforts across our organization to champion diversity and foster inclusiveness,” said Robert L. Nodden, President and CEO of AIG Japan Holdings. “Our LGBT & Allies Employee Resource Group has been growing steadily since its inception and has helped us all broaden our understanding of diversity in Japan. At AIG, we truly believe that diversity not only offers greater opportunities for our employees, but also creates greater value for our customers and helps us deliver on our promise of Active Care.”

At AIG Japan, our support for diversity and inclusion allows us to better understand the needs of our diverse clients and our wider community. This is one of our strengths: the diverse perspectives of our people help us redefine insurance in Japan to meet the needs of tomorrow.
