The World Trademark Review (WTR) named AIG's Intellectual Property Group Financial and Professional Services Team of the Year at the 2017 WTR Industry Awards.  This marks the first time any insurer has won the WTR award in this category.

Now in its eleventh year, the WTR Industry Awards recognize the important work carried out by in-house trademark counsel and honor teams who perform their functions to the highest standards.

AIG's Intellectual Property Group plays an important role in keeping our global brand and innovation initiatives strong by managing our worldwide trademark and patent portfolios.

Elizabeth Pearce, Intellectual Property Director at AIG, commented that our Intellectual Property Group assists the company with a wide variety of solutions: "Our department has filed for patent protection for products ranging from nuclear decommissioning insurance to Travel Guard's system for processing…transactions."

Shama Elliott, AIG Intellectual Property Manager, noted that in 2016, the team assisted in “the worldwide branding of Attune, the joint venture between AIG, Hamilton, and Two Sigma."

In addition to recognizing our Intellectual Property Group as a whole, WTR named Pearce and Elliott to the inaugural edition of the WTR 300, a ranking that honors the top 300 in-house intellectual property professionals around the world. The list of honorees consists only of individuals who receive multiple nominations from outside their organization.

Elliott reflected, "It was such a pleasure to be nominated for the award, and even more exciting to win." Pearce added, "We would like to thank our wonderful outside counsel at Leydig, Voit & Mayer for their invaluable help in both the trademark and patent areas."
