In Post’s Claims Awards 2017, the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) Claims Faculty New Generation Group won the award for Claims Collaboration of the Year. AIG’s Adrian McAndrew, a Property and Energy Major Loss Claims Adjuster, was a member of the CII team that earned this award.

The Post Claims Awards seek to honor the brightest stars of the UK general insurance claims sector and highlight outstanding achievements in the industry.

The Claims Collaboration of the Year award recognized the Claims Faculty New Generation Group’s strong partnership with the UK Home Office, the Association of British Insurers (ABI), and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) to develop a best practices guide for handling riot claims. The guide takes into account new UK legislation from 2016 and is designed to assist law enforcement in the event of a riot.

The Claims Faculty New Generation Group

The CII inducts a select group of members into its New Generation Programme, including brokers, claims adjusters, underwriters, and representatives from the London Insurance Market. Inductees must identify a project that improves current practices to positively impact the insurance sector and ultimately benefit clients.

AIG’s Adrian McAndrew explained that the team had observed the damage caused during the 2011 UK riots and sought to make the claims process less difficult for the public. This led the team to design improved practices for handling riot compensation claims.

With the support of the CII Claims Faculty Board and consent from Government officials, the New Generation team worked to develop the ‘Riot Claims Handling Best Practice Guide’, which they hope can serve as the gold standard for law enforcement agencies when handling claims in the event of a similar incident in the future.

Adrian reflected, “Winning the award is a great accomplishment for the group. It’s fantastic that our efforts have been acknowledged.”

Steve Agutter, Chief Claims Officer, AIG Europe, commented, “I’d like to congratulate Adrian for being part of the team from the insurance market that came together on this important subject.” Adrian has helped AIG to “be a leader in this initiative.”

Adrian and the team were also shortlisted for Claims Initiative of the Year – Outsourced Partner at the British Insurance Awards (BIA) 2017. The British Insurance Awards honor best-in-class performance and innovation across the UK insurance sector.
