AIG Careers Site Policy

American International Group, Inc. and its affiliated entities (collectively, “AIG”) ( see http://www.aigcorporate.com/AIG_All_Entities.pdf) values your trust and is committed to the responsible management, use and protection of personal information.  AIG operates in many different countries.  Some of these countries have laws related to the collection, use and transfer of the personal information of individuals.
     
This Careers Site Privacy Notice (“Notice”) is applicable to all information collected by AIG from you during your use of our Careers site (the “Careers Site”).  Personal information submitted elsewhere on AIG’s and its affiliate’s web sites will be used in accordance with our general online Privacy Policy. This Careers Site is operated by American International Group, Inc., (located at 80 Pine Street, New York, N.Y. 10270, U.S.A) in order to support the recruitment functions of AIG.
    
Your Consent
     
Submitting your personal information is entirely voluntary and you are free to decide what types of personal information, if any, to submit to us.  However, if you choose not to submit your personal information, this may limit our ability to consider your candidacy. Please read this Notice carefully. By checking the “I Agree checkbox”  at the top of this notice, you acknowledge that you have read this Notice and approve AIG’s collection, use, transfer and disclosure of your personal information as described herein.
     
By agreeing to this Notice, you agree to the transfer of personal information about you to AIG departments or offices located in countries outside the country in which you reside or are interested in obtaining employment, with different data protection regimes in place.  AIG will take appropriate technical, organizational, and legal steps to secure personal information about you.
    
Information You Provide
     
The types of information requested from you and the manner in which that information is collected and assessed are determined by the requirements of the country in which the position is located, and not the country in which you reside.  This Notice covers any personal information you submit through the Careers Site as part of the job application or job search process including:
      

  • First name, middle Initial and surname, employee id, work address, e-mail and telephone details
  • Registration login and password
  • Details contained in letters of application and CV/résumé, previous employment background, education history
  • Professional qualifications and other work-related licenses, certifications, certification expiration dates, professional memberships and awards
  • Language(s) and other relevant skills
  • Employment preferences, willingness and eligibility to relocate, desired salary, available start date
  • How you heard about the position and information relating to references.
      
You may also voluntarily choose to provide other relevant information as part of your application.  We would prefer that you avoid submitting the following sensitive information, except where such information is legally required:  sexual orientation, race, ethnic origin, religion, beliefs, disability, marital status, creed, nationality, national origin, color and/or age.
    
If you intend to provide us with details of a reference or any other third party as part of your CV/résumé, it is your responsibility to obtain consent from that third party prior to passing the personal information to us. You are responsible for the content of the information you provide to us and you must ensure it is legal, truthful, accurate; the information provide must not mislead or infringe on any third party’s rights such that it would be otherwise legally actionable.
    
Use of Personal Information 
    
Personal information provided by you through the Careers Site will be collected, used, transferred and disclosed (“processed”) by AIG for global recruitment functions and related management and planning purposes.  As permitted by local law, AIG will use the personal information to:
      
  • Process your application
  • Assess your capabilities and qualifications for a job
  • Conduct reference checks
  • Provide any services available to you on the Careers Site from time to time
  • Communicate with you
  • Comply with any applicable law or regulation
  • Monitor and record services whether provided by a AIG company or a third party
  • Conduct background checks if you are offered a job.
      
Personal information about you will be added to AIG’s international candidate database and will be used for the purposes of considering whether your qualifications are suitable for other employment positions available at AIG.  This Notice does not constitute an offer or promise of employment with respect to any employment position posted or described on the Careers Site.  If we elect to make you an offer, personal information you submit may be incorporated into our human resources system and used to manage the new-hire process.  If you become an employee, any personal information that you submit may become part of your employee file and may be used for other employment/work-related purposes.
    
Disclosure of Personal Information
    
Personal information about you will be reviewed by AIG employees or agents who have a business need to access such personal information which may include recruiters, human resources personnel, technical services personnel and managers or their designees.  We may share personal information about you with selected service providers or consultants acting on our behalf, such as third parties assisting AIG with the operation of the Careers Site.  Those third parties will be required to protect personal information.
    
AIG may disclose personal information about you in order to:  (1) protect the legal rights, privacy or safety of AIG or its employees, agents and contractors; (2) protect the safety and security of visitors to our web sites or other properties; (3) protect against fraud or other illegal activity or for risk management purposes; (4) respond to inquiries or requests from government or public authorities; (5) permit us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain; (6) enforce our enforce our policies; or (7) comply with the law or legal process.
    
AIG may need to make certain personal information available to other parties such as legal and regulatory authorities; accountants, auditors, lawyers and other outside professional advisors in all of the countries in which AIG operates; and to companies that provide products and services to AIG (such as payroll, pension scheme, benefits providers; human resources services, performance management, IT systems suppliers and support; third parties assisting with equity compensation programs, or other service providers).   AIG will remain responsible for the personal information collected.
    
AIG may transfer any and all information that we collect about you to third parties in the event of any change in the corporate structure of AIG such as, but not limited to, merger, consolidation, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of AIG's assets or stock (including without limitation in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings). 
    
Data Retention
    
We are required to retain information relating to candidates applying for jobs within the United States.  Personal information you submit for jobs outside of the United States will be retained in accordance with local law.  When your file becomes inactive, your information may be anonymized, consistent with relevant legal and regulatory obligations.  Note that AIG may delete personal information about you at any time (including your CV/résumé), for any reason.  Therefore, please retain your own copy of the personal information provided to us.
    
Passive Information Collection:  Cookies and Similar Technology
    
We may use “cookies” and similar technologies on the Careers Site.  Cookies are data that a web server transfers to an individual's computer for recordkeeping purposes.  We use cookies and other technologies to better serve you with more tailored information and facilitate your ongoing access to and use of our Careers Site.  If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to automatically decline cookies, or to be given the choice of declining or accepting the transfer of a particular cookie, or cookies from a particular web site, to your computer.  To learn more about cookies, please visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org/.
    
Access and Correction
    
If you choose to register on the Careers Site, you may access, review, and change some of the personal information collected and stored about you by logging into the Careers Site and choosing to update your account information.  The updated profile will be used as the default profile next time you apply for a job through your online account.  If you would like to change personal information that was previously submitted for consideration, please resubmit your application to the specific position with your updated personal information.
    
We encourage you to promptly update your profile to ensure that all personal information is complete and accurate.  If you would like to deactivate or remove your personal information from the Careers Site please contact us at answercenter@aig.com.
    
Security
     
We take reasonable precautions to safeguard the personal information stored on our servers and transmitted between visitors and the Careers Site.  Unfortunately, no method of transmitting or storing data can guarantee 100% security.  Do not send sensitive information via email.  It is your sole responsibility to use the appropriate level of care whenever communicating with us.
    
If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure (for example, you feel that the security of any account you might have with us has been compromised), you must immediately notify us of the problem by contacting us at answercenter@aig.com.
    
Links to other websites
    
The Careers Site may contain links to other websites.  The operators of those other websites may collect information about you, through cookies or other technologies.  If you link to another website, you will leave the Careers Site and this Notice will not apply to your use of and activity on those other sites.  Links on the Careers Site to other websites are provided only as a convenience, and the inclusion of such links does not imply endorsement of the linked site. If you provide personal information through any other site, your transaction will occur on that website (not the AIG Careers Site) and the personal information you provide will be collected by, and controlled by the privacy Notice of that website operator.  We encourage you to read the legal notice posted on those sites, including their privacy policies.  We have no responsibility or liability for your visitation to, and the data collection and use practices of, other sites.

For those persons submitting information in Europe, by agreeing to this Notice, you agree to the transfer of personally identifiable information about you to countries outside the European Economic Area ("EEA").  AIG will take appropriate technical, organizational, and legal steps to secure personally identifiable information about you.
    
Current Workers of AIG
    
If you currently work for one of AIG’s business units, you must be eligible to apply for a position in a different business unit within AIG.  If you accept such a position, your benefits programs and Human Resources policies may change.  Please consult with the HR manager for the new position concerning application eligibility, benefit programs, and HR policies applicable to that position.
   
This site is not intended for distribution to, or use by, any person or entity in any jurisdiction or country where such distribution or use would be contrary to local law or regulation.
   
Changes to the Notice
   
We reserve the right to amend this Notice at any time in order to address future developments of AIG, the Careers Site, industry, or legal trends.  By continuing to use the Careers Site following any such changes, you will be deemed to have agreed to such changes.  If you do not agree with the terms of this Notice, in whole or part, you can choose to discontinue use the Careers Site.
